Well, hey! I'm Heather Shuker. I live just outside of Reading, PA.

This website exists for a couple of reasons. For one, I make and sell pottery. That is not my only job, though, so I don’t always have pottery for sale. Truth be told, I usually only sell pottery in the fall, but, I make it all year.

This website is also home to my blog, Throwing Lines. I used to try to be pretty regular about posting to my blog but I started working as a Nurse Practitioner and my schooling, work, and children took priority over pontificating for strangers on the internet. Sorry, y'all.

As I start my new career, I have no idea how much time I'll be able to carve out for pottery and my blog, but, I'm not willing to give up on it just yet. So, it's here and I'll be back when I can. Thanks for visiting.

This naked pot has very deep throwing lines.
Regarding the name of my blog, throwing lines are those ridges on wheel thrown pottery that are squeezed into the structure of the vessel as it is built. Many potters smooth them out, but I like to keep them on a lot of my pots. Not only do I find throwing lines attractive, but they are a visual reminder that the piece was made by human hands. I believe pottery, like life, is more interesting if you don't try to smooth over all of the imperfections. Imperfections make pots and people unique. Plus, throwing lines, you know, like, words? It’s a blog, get it? I knew you would.
